Woman seriously injured after crash on Hwy. 401 near Pearson

A 51-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash that shut down part of the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Pearson International Airport on Monday night.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said a transport truck and two cars were involved in the collision, which happened in the collector lanes around 8:30 p.m.

Investigators say the vehicle the woman was driving was heading westbound on Highway 401 when it lost control for unknown reasons. As it rotated, it struck another vehicle and was then struck by a transport truck before coming to rest on the left shoulder.

The second vehicle ended up in the ditch and rolled over while the transport truck came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder.

The driver of the second car sustained minor injuries, while the transport truck driver was not hurt.

No charges have been laid at this time and any witnesses who may have seen the collision are asked to contact the OPP.

The collector lanes of Highway 401 were closed between Renforth Drive and Dixie Road until about 11:30 p.m.
