Boy, 7, seriously injured after fall from 8th floor window at Wilson & Keele

Many may have cursed Toronto’s recent stretch of heavy rain, but it proved to be a blessing for a little boy whose fall from an eighth-storey apartment window was cushioned when he landed on a patch of grass softened by the deluge.

The seven year old was conscious and screaming when paramedics arrived at the complex near Wilson Avenue and Keele Street.

He was attending a friend’s birthday party when he plummeted to the ground just before 7 p.m.

“There was several adults in the apartment supervising the children,” said Sgt. Claudio Martelluzzi. “I guess during their playtime one of the children got near the bedroom window and fell out.”

The boy is in serious condition, but is expected to survive after falling on the still-saturated soil.

He’s being treated for broken bones.

Neighbours were rattled by the scene.

“All I saw was all the police officers running towards him, and the screams were just like shrieking. The poor guy was in serious trouble,” said area resident Jane Esiwald.

The boy’s mother, who was working at the time, rushed to scene in a panic.

“When I saw her she was crying,” Tenika Martin, a friend of the boy’s mother, said. “She was holding her head.”
