The Phil Kessel era in Toronto is over — and there may be no one happier than the man himself following his trade to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

The American-born sniper had a tumultuous time in Canada’s largest city, thanks in part to a stifling media presence and a playoff-starved fan base.

We’ve compiled three of Kessel’s more noteworthy off-ice moments while with the Maple Leafs, but be warned — some of this may be a very awkward trip down memory lane.

‘You’re an idiot’

Following the firing of head coach Randy Carlyle in January of this year, (the second head coach to be canned during Kessel’s tenure), the right wing snapped on a reporter:

‘A lot of people should be ashamed of themselves’

Kessel also had a lot to say to reporters when he went to bat for team captain Dion Phaneuf back in March of this year:

‘We’re not gonna make Phil Kessel wait any longer’

The 2011 NHL All-Star Game Fantasy Draft was also a low-light for the star forward — made to wait as name after name was called …until he was selected dead last. …Well, at least he got a hefty donation to charity and a free car:
