Teen seriously injured in Hwy. 401 rollover

Traffic is slowing starting to move after all eastbound lanes of Highway 401 at Trafalgar Road were closed most of the Tuesday morning rush for a single-vehicle collision.

OPP said it appears a van blew a tire around 4:30 a.m., causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The van then swerved and flipped over.

A 15-year-old boy was trapped inside the van for about an hour. When crews were finally able to free him from the wreckage the boy was airlifted to hospital. Police said his injuries are considered life-altering.

The crash forced the closure of all eastbound lanes in the area for several hours.

At least two lanes of the highway have since reopened but police remain on scene.

Police said the boy’s father was driving the vehicle. The 56-year-old man suffered minor injuries.
