SIU identifies man found in Rideau River as suspect in cellphone murder

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has identified the body found in Ottawa’s Rideau River as the suspect sought in connection with the death of a Brampton teen.
Police said Jeremy Cook, 18, was shot to death while trying to track down his lost cellphone in London, Ont., on June 14.
Muhab Sultanaly Sultan, of Calgary, was wanted for second-degree murder in Cook’s death.
Last week, police in Ottawa said a man tried to swim across the river on June 24 after allegedly hitting two police officers on bikes with his car.
The two officers jumped in to try to rescue the man after seeing that he was running into trouble. They weren’t able to rescue him.
A body was pulled from the river on Saturday and has since been identified as 23-year-old Sultan.
Police are investigating a second suspect in connection with Cook’s death and are appealing to the third occupant who they said left the vehicle immediately prior to shooting.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
