Victims in Queen & Dovercourt double homicide identified

Toronto police have released the names of the two men killed in a double-homicide this weekend in the Queen Street and Dovercourt Road area.

Abdiweli Abdullahi and Mohamed Abdiwal Dirie, both 26 and both from Toronto, were fatally shot in a condo on Lisgar Street around 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Const. Victor Kwong said both victims were “known to police.”

Police said several shots were fired during the incident and Toronto paramedics said the victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Det. Tam Bui said police don’t know if the victims and the suspects knew each other, or even if the victims lived in the building.

Police say they are seeking four men, who they describe as persons of interest. They are all described as dark-skinned men in their mid-twenties.

One is described as east African, possibly Somalian, and spoke with a distinct southern American drawl.

Investigators are also searching for two cars that may have been involved in the incident. One is described as a newer-model, silver compact car, and may have sustained damage from a collision as it fled the scene. The other is described as a brown compact car.

Ellie Bergeron lives door from the unit where the shooting took place and said she heard five gunshots go off around 7 a.m.

Shortly after, Bergeron said a clearly distraught woman climbed over onto her balcony. When the woman returned to the unit, she began to scream and Bergeron phoned police.

Bergeron said there had been a party going on in the condo unit for the last three days.
