All Black’s Photography stores closing Aug. 8

After nearly 70 years in business, Black’s Photography will close all of its 59 locations in August.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed the news on Tuesday.

Most of the locations are in Ontario, with a couple in Manitoba and Alberta.

The company said that despite the positive momentum, it hasn’t been able to realize possible growth.

As well, the company said it would take a considerable amount of investment to adapt the brand to recent technological changes because the way Canadians are taking pictures is changing.

The company said 485 employees will be affected and that they plan to offer employees positions at Telus. There has been no word on what will become of the store retail space.

Telus purchased Black’s in 2009 for $28-million.

A number of Canadian retails have closed their doors this year including Target, Mexx, Sony Stores, Future Shop, Jacob, Smart Set.
