‘Anne of Green Gables’ reboot casts lead, set to air on YTV in early 2016

TORONTO – A TV movie reboot of “Anne of Green Gables” has found its lead.

Toronto 13-year-old Ella Ballentine will star in “Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables,” which Breakthrough Entertainment says will debut on Corus Entertainment’s YTV next year.

Breakthrough is making the two-hour original movie in association with Montgomery’s granddaughter, Kate MacDonald Butler, who is an executive producer.

Susan Coyne wrote the screenplay and John Kent Harrison is directing the film.

Production is under way in several locations throughout Canada.

Based on Montgomery’s series of novels, the story of a feisty red-headed orphan in Prince Edward Island first aired as a CBC miniseries in 1985.
