Death in McCowan Park Monday deemed homicide

The 23-year-old man found dead in McCowan Park on Monday had been missing for two days, police said.

The family of Nitiyanand Gary Singh reported him missing on Saturday after he had failed to contact them – which they said was unusual.

Police said his body was found by a passerby in a wooded area of the park, located in the Danforth Road and Eglinton Avenue East area, around 10 a.m. Monday. Singh’s body showing obvious signs of trauma. His death has been deemed a homicide.

An autopsy was conducted but police would not release a cause of death, stating only that an edged weapon was used.

Record showed that Singh had been texting a friend on Thursday night. Police said the last messages were received around 1 a.m. Friday.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who saw Singh any time after 1 a.m. on Friday.

There has been no word on suspects.
