Shomi to be available to all Canadians this summer

Video streaming platform shomi is going to be available to all Canadians starting this summer.

A beta version of the on-demand service was launched by Rogers Communications Inc. and Shaw Communications November of 2014. It was offered as a subscription service to Rogers and Shaw cable and Internet customers for $8.99 a month.

Now, it’s also going to be available to Bell and other service providers for the same price. New subscribers will get their first month for free.

The service can be streamed on all platforms, including tablet, mobile, XBox360, Apple TV, Chromecast and set-top boxes for Rogers and Shaw TV customers.

A recent CRTC move blocked Rogers, Bell and Shaw from offering exclusive content, meaning that now, anyone can buy shomi or Bell’s service, CraveTV.

Shomi is home to some exclusive content such as Transparent and Catastrophe, with previous seasons of Modern Family and Sons of Anarchy being some of the more popular downloads.

Rogers is the parent company of this station and website.
