Ontario ombudsman Andre Marin is using Twitter to fight for his job.
In a bizarre twist, Marin tweets “In less than 48 hours, you have no ombudsman.”
He tweets that he was told he would be ‘temporarily reappointed’ for at least four months when his term expires this Friday.
Marin said he’s yet to hear anything, so he asked his Twitter followers to contact Government House Leader Yasir Naqvi regarding his job status.
Marin became the province’s top watchdog in 2005 and signed on for a second five-year term in 2010.
Naqvi has yet to respond to the postings.
In the meantime, The Toronto Star reports that Toronto ombudsman Fiona Crean has applied for the job.
Crean Fiona Crean announced in March that she will step down when her term ends in November citing “extraordinarily harmful debates” in city council concerning her reappointment.
Marin tweeted at 9:22 p.m. on Wednesday and his tweet was retweeted more than 180 times by Thursday at 10:55 a.m.
