There’s a controversy brewing, dubbed “Shoegate,” at the Cannes International Film Festival.
Organizers are being criticized for their strict dress code after women who weren’t wearing high heels were reportedly turned away from a premiere because they were wearing flats.
The red carpet at the festival is highly regulated, as men must wear tuxedos and black shoes, and women are expected to wear dresses with heels.
Actress Emily Blunt has called it “very disappointing.”
A festival spokesperson said they’re investigating.
