Motorcyclist dies after crash on Rosedale Valley, near Bloor

A 28-year-old man is dead after his motorcycle crashed on Rosedale Valley Road, near Bloor Street East.

Police said, for an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the motorcycle and struck the curb between Park Road and Bayview Avenue around 1 a.m. The impact of the bike hitting the curb caused both the driver and the passenger to be thrown from the motorcycle, striking a light standard.

It appears the motorcycle was travelling at a high speed when the crash happened.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, paramedics said.

Toronto police said a 20-year-old woman is in intensive care with life-threatening injuries.

Police also said the driver only had M1 licence, meaning he was not allowed to carry a passenger or ride at night.

A second motorcycle was seen in the area at the time of the collision and according to police the motorcycle returned to the scene of the crash and left shortly after.

Rosedale Valley was closed for several hours from Park to Bayview for the collision investigation. The road has since reopened.
