EXCLUSIVE: TTC driver caught doing crossword at red light

The TTC is back in the headlines after a bus driver was caught apparently doing a crossword at a red light on Tuesday morning.

A photo of the incident was posted to social media by Sportsnet 590 The Fan’s Brent Gunning.

Gunning said he was heading southbound on the 320 Yonge bus around 5:20 a.m. when the vehicle stopped at a red light and the driver pulled out the paper. He said the driver appeared to be looking at the crossword.

“I look up and I see him put the paper on the steering wheel … it looks like he’s doing a crossword. That’s the page that it’s on,” Gunning recalled exclusively to 680 NEWS.

“The only other alternative is he’s looking at his horoscope — I don’t know that that’s any better,” he added.

TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said they will need to identify the operator and interview him before taking appropriate action.

“Operators are required to be attentive and aware of their surroundings at all times, whether driving, servicing a stop or waiting at a red light,” he said. “Reading, doing puzzles or checking cell phones is not permitted.”

Ross wouldn’t comment on what disciplinary action the driver could face.
