Man, 66, faces charges after driving unsafe vehicle in St. Catharines

A 66-year-old man is facing several charges after his unsafe van was pulled over in St. Catharines on Monday.

Niagara regional police were conducting a distracted driving blitz on Queenston Street, at the Welland Canal, when an officer noticed a green 2000 Dodge Caravan without sliding side doors and rear windows.

The van, which did not have a licence plate, had a number of items sticking out from the sides, a wooden stool tied to its roof, and a slow-moving vehicle sign slapped on the back.

Police said when the van was pulled over, the driver admitted he was a suspended driver and that he did not have insurance.

The man is charged with seven offences including driving while under suspension, driving without insurance or plate, and operating an unsafe vehicle.
