5 arrested after search warrants executed in city’s east end

Five people have been arrested after search warrants were executed in the city’s east end Tuesday morning.

Police in 55 Division said one woman, three men and a teenage boy were taken into custody from four separate locations in the Gerrard Street East and Carlaw Avenue area around 5 a.m.

A vehicle was also seized.

Police said the arrests were made as part of a two-month investigation into the alleged possession, distribution and sale of crack cocaine. The project was spearheaded by the Major Crime’s Unit with the assistance of the Emergency Task Force, Toronto Police Service Drug Squad and the Guns and Gang Unit.

Stephen Laroche, 28; Carmeta Josephs, 26; Abdiquani Abshir, 23; Nureen Haji, 35; and a 17-year-old boy face a total of 18 drug-related charges including trafficking and possession.

The teen cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

They are all scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
