TIMELINE: Union station’s GO concourse construction

By

Ever find it a little too squishy waiting for the train at Union station?

Well, that is now changing.

The long-awaited Union station revitalization project is rolling out with the 62,000-square-foot space opening on Monday. The City of Toronto started the construction on the York concourse in June 2010.

New stairs, elevators and platforms were created along with direct access to the Union station’s Great Hall to the new concourse which is a “key component” of the Union station revitalization, said Metrolinx.

And there’s more, but with a catch.

The Bay Street concourse will be open until after the Pan Am Games in July, but will then undergo construction.

Last August documents were obtained that showed the Bay Street concourse was slated to open in July in time for the Pan Am Games. The opening was then pushed until 2016.

The Bay Street concourse is now due to open even later, in 2017, due to the delay in building the York concourse.

The total concourse is said to be triple what it was before construction. The area will include 22 Presto machines, 15 ticket vending machines, 12 new staircases, eight new elevators and four new entrances.

Here is breakdown of what is to come:

Summer 2015:

Scheduled closure of Bay concourse

2017:
Opening of the new Bay concourse
