Suspicious white powder-filled package mailed to Barrie MP Patrick Brown

A suspicious package containing a white powder was delivered to MP Patrick Brown’s Barrie office on Tuesday.

The building was evacuated and a HAZMAT team called in to investigate.

Staff recognized the name on envelope as very recognizable on a national level and alerted authorities in Ottawa who in turn called local officials.

The Toronto Sun reports the letter came from within a penitentiary and was from a notorious Canadian criminal.

The envelope arrived by regular mail delivered by Canada Post.

Employees were let back in to the building roughly two hours after the call came in.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper had visited Brown’s office the day before.

Brown is currently running for the leadership of the Ontario Conservative party.

This comes about a week after suspicious packages were mailed to senators’ Parliament Hill offices.
