40 current, former senators receive letters about questionable expense claims: report

At least 40 current and former senators have received confidential letters from the auditor-general about questionable expense claims, according to a report.

CTV News reports it includes one senator who has been asked to account for more than $100,000.

The letters reportedly request information or justification for expenses they have filed.

The expense claims reportedly being checked date back to 2001.

Some of the senators who were asked to justify expenses have reportedly repaid some of the them.

The full report will be released by the end of June, the report said.

Meanwhile, Duffy’s long-awaited trial starts on April 7. He faces 31 charges of fraud, breach of trust and bribery, all associated with living, travel, and contracting expenses filed by the former Conservative appointee.

On Tuesday, the RCMP filed new documents in court alleging Wallin submitted 21 claims to the senate for private trips to Toronto and Guelph.
