Trevor Noah to succeed Jon Stewart as host of ‘The Daily Show’

Jon Stewart’s successor on The Daily Show has been named and it’s someone only hardcore fans of the late night show will recognize.

Trevor Noah, a 31-year-old South African comedian, will now occupy the host’s chair.

The New York Times first reported the host change on Monday morning. Noah was a correspondent on the show but only made three appearances in total after joining the roster at the end of 2014.

The unexpected promotion comes after Stewart announced he would be stepping down, as host, after 16 years at the helm, although an exact date for his departure isn’t known.

In a statement from Comedy Central, Stewart says he’s thrilled with the decision to promote Noah.
