Toronto police launch pedestrian safety blitz

Toronto kids, cooped up inside for months, are finally getting outside this March break and Toronto police are launching a campaign aimed at keeping them safe.

The campaign’s goal is to curb fatal crashes involving pedestrians.

Toronto police say 71 per cent of all the traffic fatalities this year involved pedestrians.

Officers are watching for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians that may be doing things that could jeopardize their safety, including jaywalking or crosswalk violations.

Police in Halton and Peel will also be taking part in pedestrian safety campaigns.

The campaign starts Monday and runs until Sunday, March 22.
