Sandro Lisi in court for extortion trial while Ford heads to Jamaica

Rob Ford’s former driver is court Monday for a preliminary hearing on an extortion charge.

Alexander “Sandro” Lisi was charged with extortion in connection with trying to retrieve the infamous video of the former mayor smoking crack.

Lisi was initially charged with two counts of extortion for calls he allegedly made to Mohamed Siad and Liban Siyad in an attempt to retrieve the video.

Siad is the man who showed to tape to Toronto Star reporters.

The charge involving Siad was dropped on Monday after the court received new information.

The charge involving Siyad still stands.

The hearing will be in court all week and is scheduled for a second week in April.

Ford staffers will be testifying along with other expert witnesses.

There is a publication ban on all evidence heard in the preliminary hearing until after the trial concludes.

Ford has also been subpoenaed to testify at the hearing.

He flew to Jamaica with his family on Sunday after wrapping up a round of radiation.

Lisi is facing drug trafficking charges in a separate case which will go to court on March 24.
