EXCLUSIVE: Rexdale mom catches man peeping into her window

Police are searching for a male suspect after a Rexdale mom captured a man on video peeping into her windows.

Maria, who only wanted her first name used, told CityNews she spotted a man walking out of her backyard when she returned to her home in the Dixon Road and Martin Grove Road area around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

She ran inside and called police while her partner chased the man, who may have fled in a whitish-beige SUV.

But the story took an even more frightening turn when Maria watched her home surveillance video.

The video showed the man propping a ladder up against the side of her home and climbing up to peek in the window. Maria says her two young children were having a bath at the time.

“I’m scared for me and my kids. Like is he a pedophile? Is he after me? What’s his purpose? Why is he doing this?” she asked.

“I wouldn’t have been alerted (to this) if I didn’t come home to catch him literally coming out of my backyard. If I didn’t see that…who knows how far this would have gone?”

“It’s very troubling knowing that you have kids. Did he catch my kids in the bathroom? It’s very disturbing.”

Police are investigating but say it’s too soon to say if the suspect has been involved in any other incidents in the area.

“Residents in the area are reminded to lock their windows and entrances. Tools and ladders should also be locked up when not in use,” police warned in a release on Monday.

The man is described as white, unshaven with short dark hair and a medium build.

CityNews has blurred the suspect’s face to protect the integrity of the police investigation.
