Students, teacher treated in hospital after chemical mishap at North York school

A teacher and three of his students were treated in hospital after coming into contact with a chemical during a science experiment at a North York private school.
Police said it happened around 3 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Royal Crown Academic School on Bayview Avenue, just south of Finch Avenue East.
The teacher had put drain cleaner in a plastic pop bottle with water. The bottle ruptured and the chemical splashed on him and his students, causing minor burns and irritation.
The teacher drove the students to hospital for treatment.
Ontario’s Ministry of Labour was called in to investigate.
Earlier police said as many as 17 students were treated in hospital, but they later corrected that account.
