Virginia Ludy to be first female CNE GM

There’s a new person in charge of the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), but she’s no stranger to The Ex.

Virginia Ludy replaces long-time general manager David Bednar, who will be retiring this spring.

Ludy is currently assistant general manager and director of operations at the CNE.

“Virginia Ludy knows ‘The Ex’, loves ‘The Ex’ and is best prepared to move this organization forward in these ever changing times,” Brian Ashton, president of the Canadian National Exhibition Association, said in a statement.

She becomes the first woman ever to serve in the top job.

Ludy has been involved in the fair industry, including the CNE, for more than 30 years, and played a leadership role in designing a new strategic plan for the CNE.

“I believe tremendous opportunities lie ahead for the CNE and I am very excited and honoured to have been appointed to lead the organization in fulfilling the vision established for the event by president Ashton and the board of directors,” Ludy said the a statement.

The CNE runs from Aug. 21 to Sept. 7.
