Former pastor gets 14 years, 8 months for killing wife

Former Scarborough pastor Philip Grandine was sentenced on Friday morning to 14 years and eight months in prison for the 2011 drowning of his pregnant wife.

A jury found him guilty of manslaughter last month.

Grandine’s wife, Anna Karissa Grandine, 29, was found in the bathtub of their bungalow in October 2011.

When paramedics arrived at their home, Karissa was still in the bathtub and the water had not been drained.

Grandine was arrested six months later and charged with first-degree murder. Toxicology tests found a sedative in his wife’s system which had not been prescribed to her.

The Crown had accused Grandine of plotting to kill his wife in order to continue an extramarital affair with his friend’s wife, a parishioner at his church.
