SIU called in after fatal police shooting near Warden Station

A 33-year-old man is dead after a police shooting near Warden Station.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has been called in to investigate, said the man was “struck at least once.”

Police responded to a 911 call at Warden Station for an apparent attempted robbery of the collector booth just after midnight on Wednesday.

The fatal incident occurred at an apartment building just south of the station.

It is unclear whether police pursued the victim to the apartment.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the SIU said.

Warden Station was closed while the SIU investigated but has since reopened to subways and buses.

Warden Avenue was closed for the police investigation but has also reopened.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency, which investigates cases involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
