#SantaBomb: Potential Christmas storm could bring wind, rain, snow

Santa Claus is coming to town on Christmas Eve, but so is a potential Christmas storm.

A rather large potential storm, dubbed the #SantaBomb on Twitter, could arrive in the Greater Toronto Area just in time for Christmas Day.

“There is the potential for a big storm for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It looks like it could bring very strong wind and then snow or rain, a combination,” 680News meteorologist Jill Taylor said.

However, CityNews meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai says the chance of a white Christmas in low in Toronto.

Christmas is just a week away and there are lots of variables still in play.

Taylor wanted to issue a heads-up in case it does snow since this is one of the busiest travel times of the year.

“Not the best timing, but if you know about it now, at least you can prepare or in the back of your mind think ‘yeah, there is a potential for a big storm,” she said.

Some meteorologists are saying the storm could likely strengthen dramatically in the U.S., while it races northeastward toward the eastern Great Lakes on Christmas Eve.

While some are just excited about the potential for a White Christmas, others are worried about their travel plans.

There is concern about flights in the U.S. Northeast, especially in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington.

If it does snow, it’s not yet known how much the GTA might get.

Last year, the December ice storm ravaged the GTA, leading to widespread power outages and damage, with many spending Christmas without power.
