SIU finds no grounds for charges in Queen subway shooting

The Special Investigations Unit has found no cause for criminal charges after four police officers opened fire in Queen subway station December 13, 2013.

Four officers fired a total of 28 rounds in Queen Station just before 8 p.m. on a Friday night.

One man was shot four times in the hand and torso. He survived his injuries.

The officers believed a pellet gun the man was pointing at officers was real.

The investigation revealed the man did not fire any rounds from his his pellet gun.

SIU Director Tony Loparco said he is satisfied the officers “acted reasonably.”

“They pleaded with the complainant to drop his weapon and desist from his course, and only resorted to potentially lethal force when they had reason to believe their lives and the lives of others in the vicinity were in imminent peril,” Loparco said in a statement.
