JEFFERSON, Ohio – Soap opera actor Freddie Smith has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the car crash that seriously injured his girlfriend in northeast Ohio.

The 26-year-old “Days of Our Lives” actor from Los Angeles lost control of a vehicle Oct. 7 in Ashtabula (ash-tuh-BYOO’-luh) County. He pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony vehicular assault and misdemeanour driving under the influence.

The Star-Beacon in Ashtabula reports (http://bit.ly/1yyvvED ) Smith told a judge he fell asleep because he’d been drinking. His blood-alcohol level was .093, above Ohio’s legal limit of .08.

Twenty-seven-year-old actress Alyssa Tabit of North Hollywood, California, was seriously hurt but is recovering. They had returned to Smith’s hometown for a wedding.
