Bloor West store repeatedly vandalized with homophobic graffiti

A clothing store in the Bloor West Village has become a target for bigotry after being repeatedly vandalized with homophobic graffiti.

Carolyn Eby, the owner of Trove, said she was horrified to discover the words “Be happy not gay” painted across the back wall of her store over the weekend, as well as spray paint covering the pride flag in the store’s front window.

“This has been a really sad time for us we’re sickened by this… it’s extremely upsetting,” she said. “This is very much directed to my business.”

Eby says this is at least the fourth time her store’s been hit with vandalism and she wants it to stop.

“I’d like to be left alone to my beliefs and my openness to diversity,” she said.

Eby says she owns two Trove stores but this is the only location that has been vandalized.

Police are investigating the incident and will be looking through Trove’s surveillance video to see if they can find images of the people responsible.
