Santa Claus parades on Sunday prompt road closures, transit changes

Santa Claus will be a busy fellow on Sunday afternoon, making appearances at a pair of parades rolling through parts of Toronto.

Motorists and transit-users are advised to prepare for road closures and possible delays.

The first event, the Village of East Toronto Beaches Santa Claus Parade, begins at noon with the following road closures in effect until 3 p.m. on Sunday:

• Westbound Kingston Road from Victoria Park Avenue to Walter Street
• Walter Street will be closed from Kingston Road to Lyall Avenue as the parade ends and disperses

The parade will take the following route:

• Formation area at Neil McNeil Catholic Secondary School
• Northbound Victoria Park Avenue
• Westbound Kingston Road
• Northbound Walter Street
• Westbound Lyall Avenue
• Northbound Kimberly Avenue
• Dispersal is northbound Walter Street to westbound Lyall Avenue and northbound Kimberly Avenue

The second event, the Weston Santa Claus Parade, will begin staging at noon until it kicks off at 2 p.m. on Weston Road, between St Phillips Road and Church Street.

The parade will take the following route:

• Southbound on Weston Road starting between St. Phillips Road and Church Street
• Westbound on Sidney Belsey Crescent to the dispersal Area at Dora Spencer Road

Road closures will take place on Weston Road, from St. Phillips Road to Jane Street until the parade wraps up around 4 p.m.

The following TTC service changes will occur at various times during the event:

• The 89 Weston bus, both eastbound and westbound, will be diverted both ways during the formation.
• The 59 Maple Leaf will divert from Pelmo Crescent via west on Gary Drive, south on Wendell Avenue, east on Queenslea Avenue, south on Grattan Street, and east on Church Street to route during the formation and parade.
• The 52 Lawrence West, both eastbound and westbound, will divert both ways on Jane Street, Eglinton Avenue and Scarlett Road.
• The 58 Malton, both eastbound and westbound, will divert both ways on Scarlett Road, Eglinton Avenue and Jane Street.
• The 79 Scarlett Road northbound will loop to divert via north on Scarlett Road, west on Dixon Road, south on Royal York Road, east on Lawrence Avenue, south on Scarlett Road to regular southbound routing.
• The 89 Weston, both north and southbound, will divert both ways on Jane Street, Church Street, Uphill Avenue, Pelmo Crescent, Gary Drive and Oak Street.
