Winter hammers western New York

An early blast of winter hammered western New York with more than 120 centimetres of snow on Tuesday.

Buffalo was especially hard hit, and it may not be over. Another 75 centimetres are expected to fall before thing taper off later Wednesday.

The snow was so intense that the National Guard was called in and large stretches of the Interstate 90 have been closed. More than 100 cars are stranded on the highway.

A driving ban is also in effect in south Buffalo.
