Magnotta’s father testifies at murder trial; talks of troubled childhood

Luka Rocco Magnotta’s father is testifying on his son’s behalf as the defence case gets going at the accused’s first-degree murder trial.

The man’s name is subject to a publication ban.

He told the court he has been found to be a schizophrenic.

The father suggested that Magnotta’s upbringing was dysfunctional and that he was frequently mistreated by his mother’s family.

The 32-year-old Magnotta is charged in the slaying and dismemberment of Jun Lin in May 2012 in Montreal before he fled to Paris and then Berlin.

He has admitted to killing the Chinese engineering student, but has pleaded not guilty by way of mental disorder.
