Interview: Mayor-elect John Tory says traffic, transit top priorities as mayor

Toronto mayor-elect John Tory says his top priorities as mayor include tackling traffic in the city and improving transit.

Tory spoke with 680News political affairs specialist John Stall over the phone on Tuesday morning, the day after his win.

“I think the traffic is nightmare in this city. I think there are some practical common-sense things that can be done soon to get traffic moving better,” Tory said.

“That is something I am going to focus on right away, and get working on SmartTrack and other things.”

He also said he is looking forward to running the city and helping its citizens.

“I’m just happy to have this privilege of public service and I think people are looking for results, and I am going to do my best to work with every single councillor and all the other governments to get those results that people want,” Tory told listeners.

“I am very optimistic. I come with an open heart to say we got to get results for people — that’s what they want.”
