Interview: Doug Ford says election comes down to getting the vote out

Toronto mayoral candidate Doug Ford is confident he will win Monday’s election.

“I’m gonna win. That’s very simple,” Ford said.

“It’s going to be an opportunity to embarrass the pollsters once again.”

Ford said internal polling numbers show the race is a dead heat and the numbers published elsewhere are “fictitious.”

In a live interview with 680News political affairs specialist John Stall on Friday morning, Ford said the top three candidates — himself, John Tory, and Olivia Chow — know the numbers are tight and the result will depend on who can get the vote out on Monday.

Ford said his supporters aren’t just fawning fans wanting to snap a photograph.

“There’s a difference between taking a picture and looking at you square in the eyes passionately saying, ‘I’m voting for you’,” Ford said.

When asked about whether his style is too divisive, Ford said he has been asked by four councillors for endorsements.

“I’ve know these guys and gals for four years. I know what makes them tick and doesn’t make them tick,” Ford said.

Ford was the third of the three candidates who interviewed live on 680News this week ahead of Monday’s municipal election. John Tory was at 680News on Tuesday, and Olivia Chow was in the studio on Wednesday.
