Belleville patient tests negative for Ebola

Lab tests have confirmed that the patient under investigation at a Belleville hospital has tested negative for Ebola.

Hospital officials say the patient had recently returned from West Africa and arrived at QHC Belleville General Hospital emergency room early Monday with some symptoms common with the Ebola virus.

Officials say the proper precautions were taken and the patient was placed in isolation.

“We knew this was a low risk case and were expecting these results,” Dr. Dick Zoutman, Quinte Health Care chief of staff said in a statement. “I am extremely pleased with the response of all the health professionals involved with this case.”

On Monday a patient in an Ottawa hospital also tested negative for Ebola after returning from West Africa.
