2 GTA drivers clocked going more than 200 km/h

Two GTA men have been charged with stunt driving after they were caught going more than 200 kilometres per hour in separate incidents on Thursday, the OPP said.

Around 1 a.m., an officer clocked a BMW travelling at almost 230 km/h in the westbound lanes of Highway 403, near Eglinton Avenue, in Mississauga.

Songmao Li, 22, of Mississauga was arrested and charged with stunt driving and several other driving offences. Police suspended his licence and seized his car for seven days.

Hours later, an OPP officer spotted a Mercedes-Benz going faster than 200 km/h on the southbound Highway 400, near Finch Avenue, in Toronto.

Jeong Moon Youn, 29, of North York was charged with dangerous driving and stunt driving.

His licence was also suspended and his car impounded for a week.

The OPP said this year speeding and aggressive driving has been the main cause of fatal crashes on highways it patrols. Friday marked the first day of its Thanksgiving weekend safety blitz, Operation Impact.
