Toronto’s Safehaven Respite Care Facility gets makeover

Things are much brighter for the parents and children of the Safehaven Respite Care Facility on Bloor Street near Dufferin Street.

Dulux Paint has donated more than 65 gallons of paint and provided 30 volunteers to help re-vamp the walls of Safehaven, updating the dark and dated colour scheme to a bright palette of oranges and yellows.

“The look on their faces were like, ‘what happened?'” said Allen Dameon, Dulux’s district operations manager, “They could hardly wait to get to their own rooms to see what colour they were.”

Part of Dulux Paint’s ‘Colourful Communities’ initiative, the company is trying to spread happiness with the use of colour.

“We wanted to create a complete warm and lively experience when you walk into the facility,” said Dameon, saying that the light green which now runs through the halls represents hope and renewal.

“Anyone can come in and feel very comfy and right at home.”

The children at Safehaven range from newborns to teens up to 17, and the facility caters to their parents and their child’s complex medical needs.

The ‘Colourful Communities’ initiative has helped re-paint legions, homes for disadvantaged woman, and foodbanks around the GTA, and Dulux is planning three to four new projects for next year.
