BlackBerry unveils new Passport smartphone

BlackBerry has a new device out there. It’s called the BlackBerry Passport.

It’s bigger than most smartphones on the market. It has a square screen that measures 11.4 centimetres diagonally and a keyboard. BlackBerry says it is four times more accurate for the user than the phone’s competitors.

The name says it all; BlackBerry wanted the phone to mimic the size of the Canadian passport.

City’s tech expert Mike Yawney was at Wednesday’s event and says while this is not going to save BlackBerry, it is a step in the right direction.

Without a contract you will pay $699 for the phone. In Canada, Rogers, the parent of this company, will soon release pricing of the phone in its stores.

The Passport is angled towards health care professionals, government workers and the military — sectors in the market that embrace technology through big orders and stick with a device for years.
