Man killed by garbage truck downtown

A 27-year-old man has died after being hit by a garbage truck in an alley near Yonge-Dundas Square.
Police have not identified the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday in O’Keefe Lane, just south of the square.
Witnesses told police they saw someone walking in the area just before the accident occurred. Police are appealing for more witnesses to come forward, said Const. Clint Stibbe with Traffic Services.
“It is quite common for individuals to use laneways in this area,” Stibbe said.
Police will review security footage from surrounding businesses, including cameras pointed directly into the alley.
The vehicle—a GFL garbage truck driven by a 33-year-old man—was not equipped with a camera.
