Man dies after double stabbing in city’s east end

A man is dead and another is in serious condition after a double stabbing in the Danforth Avenue and Dawes Road area.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 5:20 p.m. Monday.

One of the men was found without vital signs and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The second man suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital in stable condition.

Police say it’s believed the incident began when several men got into an argument which then escalated and knives were pulled out.

Witnesses claim the suspects fled the area shortly after.

“I saw a bunch of youths running away from the scene,” witness Christian Campbell explained. “I saw two victims lying on the ground. I just tried to assist them as much as possible.”

Campbell says both men suffered injuries to the abdomen.

A male was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

“There has been a person of interest that has been arrested. To what his involvement is, as yet, we’re not sure, ” Sgt. David Dube said. “There’s still (four) outstanding suspects as well.”

Police say they are reviewing surveillance tape from nearby businesses.
