Residents safe after becoming trapped during Parkdale fire

A number of residents became trapped during a fire in a Parkdale apartment building on Saturday evening.

It happened just before 9:30 p.m. on the third floor of a highrise on West Lodge Avenue, near Queen Street West and Lansdowne Avenue.

A couple of people were stuck in a garbage room and some took to their balconies to escape the heavy smoke.

The fire was out within about 20 minutes.

Those assessed by paramedics for possible smoke inhalation didn’t want to be taken to the hospital.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
