Joan Rivers in hospital, reportedly stops breathing during surgery

Joan Rivers is reportedly in stable condition after she stopped breathing during a surgical procedure at a clinic in New York City.

The 81-year-old comedian was undergoing vocal cord surgery when she stopped breathing and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Various media outlets say her condition has been upgraded to stable from critical.

Celebrity gossip website TMZ is reporting 911 received a call earlier this morning saying somebody was in either cardiac or respiratory arrest.

The site also says her daughter, Melissa Rivers, is on her way to the hospital.

The press office at Mount Sinai told CBS News that it can’t immediately comment.
