Toronto woman killed in Calgary shooting an innocent bystander: police

A Toronto woman killed in a weekend shooting in Calgary is being called an innocent bystander.

Police say 26-year-old Natasha Mohamed Farah was chatting with her friends outside a bar when she was hit by a stray bullet.

“Nothing has come to light to the investigative team so far that would indicate there was a target in the close proximity to the victim,” Sgt. Michael Cavilla with the Calgary homicide unit said.

Farah had reportedly moved to Calgary less than a year ago and was working in the city.

Three people were taken into police custody on Monday and police say a fourth suspect is outstanding. All three suspects are known to police in Toronto.

“One of the suspects that we have in custody and are interviewing right now is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for attempted murder out of Toronto,” Cavilla explained.

No weapons have been recovered and no charges have been laid at this time.

Cavilla called the shooting “reckless and tragic.”
