EXCLUSIVE: Widow of murdered Markham firefighter speaks out for first time

The widow of a Markham firefighter has broken her silence after her husband was murdered a year ago in what police deemed an unprovoked attack.

Dominic Parker, a father of two girls, was on his way home when he was stabbed to death at a cafe near Danforth and Coxwell avenues in the city’s east end. He was 45.

His widow, Zilla Parker, spoke to CityNews reporter Tom Hayes in an exclusive interview.

“It’s probably one of the toughest years of my life. I can’t think that I’ve had any greater challenge,” she said.

The two were high school sweethearts, and married at 21.

“All he would say is ‘I’m living the dream’,” she said with a smile.

“I’m just going day by day.”

The accused in the case, Nabil Hurhuy, 23, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder but is still undergoing a psychiatric assessment to see if he can be found criminally responsible.
