Woman charged after car slams into Oshawa house, sparking fire


A 25-year-old Whitby woman is facing charges after a car slammed into a house in Oshawa, severing a natural gas line and causing a fire.

The incident occurred at Bloor Street West just after 1 a.m. on Friday.

The residents’ home and a neighbouring apartment building were evacuated by police. The residents have since been allowed to return home.

No injuries were reported.

The driver of the car allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived. She was later located walking in downtown Oshawa in good health.

Kaylynn Gaspar is facing charges of fail to remain and dangerous operation. She was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Bloor Street was closed at Park Road for repairs and investigation. The westbound lane was expected to reopen Friday morning, but the eastbound lane will be closed until road repairs are complete.
