KINGSTON, Ont. – An animal welfare group says a Kingston, Ont., woman has been banned for life from owning, caring for or living with an animal after a kitten fell into a hot deep fryer and was left untreated.
The Ontario SPCA says Chelsea Salter pleaded guilty in a Kingston court last week to permitting distress to an animal.
The group says SPCA agents visited Salter’s property and found what appeared to be a five-to-six-week-old kitten lying on the floor of a coat closet.
It says the animal was “lethargic, withdrawn and had burns on the legs and stomach area.”
The society says Salter claimed she was unable to afford veterinary attention for the injured animal, which was subsequently surrendered to the Kingston Humane Society and has since been adopted.
Salter was also sentenced to a two-year probation during which time SPCA agents are permitted to inspect her residence to ensure compliance.
