Homicide is investigating after a double-shooting near Jane and Eglinton left one man dead and another seriously injured.
Emergency crews were called to the scene around 6:45 p.m. Monday.
Police say the two victims were in a car that was stopped in traffic at the time of the shooting.
“A male suspect approached the motor vehicle as it was stopped in traffic, fired numerous rounds into the back of the drivers side of the vehicle, striking the victim,” explained Det.-Sgt. Hank Idsinga. “Second victim was inside the vehicle at the same time.”
The 24-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim, a 23-year-old man, was rushed to hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.
Police say they believed the victims were targeted.
Detectives have not released the victims’ names, but say they were both known to police.
Anyone with information about the victims’ whereabouts leading up to the shooting, or about the shooting itself, is being asked to contact police.
Jane Street was shut down between Emmet and Eglinton avenues while police investigated.
