2 men charged after violent home invasion in North York

Toronto police have charged two men following a home invasion in North York last March.

Police say that the victim was contacted by phone and told that he had won a car dealership contest.

A man appeared at his house with a mechanic’s outfit and clipboard, before forcing his way inside the victim’s home. The suspect was joined by two other men, who subdued the victim with zip ties and duct tape.

Police say the victim was kicked and beaten with a baton.

After the suspects ransacked the home and fled the scene, the victim managed to get out of the house and yell for help. He was treated for head trauma and bruising to his body, wrists and ankles.

James Singh, 22, of Mississauga, and Ajanthan Thavakumar, 24, of Vaughan, have been charged with robbery, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and wearing a disguise with the intent to commit an indictable offence.

Police say a warrant is being obtained for a third suspect.
